This martial art has been practiced by Heroic Tamil sailors for thousands of years. We have been conducting this art only at their community temple festivals until the last day of 2020.

The art of Tamil sailors
kalal is a kaal silambu worn by ancient Tamil warriors on their feet. This art is called kalaladi because it corresponds to the silambu sound that occurs when one collides with another in battle. This is called kaliyal Attam when combined with dance.
